The bathroom is one of the only rooms in a multi-bodied household where we're expected and encouraged to lock ourselves inside. With that kind of permission, it makes sense to use this private space as a luxurious sanctuary.
Make the most of your 'heaven' by giving it proper lighting. Putting gender aside for a moment, young people are spending more time their 'alone' time in the bathroom than older people. About 50 percent of people between 18-29 spend their reading in the bathroom or toilet. Compare that to 42 percent in the 30-44 range and only 24 percent for adults 45 and over.
There are four recommended types of lighting needed for the bathroom atmosphere. They are task, accent, decorative, or statement pieces. This light is the necessary type to do an important task, such as the mirror area, where we do our makeup, shaving, tooth care, etc. A pair of wall sconces are mounted at eye level on both sides of the mirror to provide shadow-less illumination. Highlight your favorite wall, freshly polished granite vanity table, or of course your favorite bathtub. This makes your eyes focus on these objects first thing as you enter your heaven.
This adds visual sparkle. A decorative light brings a statement to the whole area, and beautifies and refreshes all elements. It's not looking flat anymore.
